Hello world!

printf (“hello world”);

Everyone who has ever dabbled in computer programming knows: you ought to start your endeavors with printing “Hello world” on the screen. Otherwise bad things will happen. I assume it works the same way when starting a blog. Or maybe not but I like to play it safe.

You’ve landed on a brand new spot of the internet. My spot! In this first ever article I’d like to explain to the world why this website came to be and what will be happening here.

A Blog At Last!

As a teenager (I will not be disclosing how long ago that was) I was intrigued when I found out there existed this thing called the internet. Even more so when I found out you could code your own pages with this funny language called HTML. I wanted a website for my own ever since.

But then, as these things go, life got in between and that website never happened. Until today!

Why make this blog? Well, I am passionate about electronics, love to make things and I like to write. It also happens that very few of my friends and family are much into the tinkering I do in my spare time. Consequently I don’t talk about my hobbies a lot as my audience tends to go blank-faced whenever I do. So that’s where you come in, dear people of the internet! There are bound to be some people out there who don’t get bored into a stupor by me droning on about electronics and coding. And if there aren’t, well, the bots might be interested instead.

What You’ll Find Here

With this blog I intent to write about my various hobby projects. Most of the content here will probably be about electronics and the firmware that runs on it. There will also be some 3D-printing and occasionally a bit of computer programming. And maybe other things, too.

The projects I cover will be nothing too complicated. I do these projects because I find them enjoyable. Not to show off my engineering prowess or to convince the world of my brilliance. (But feel free to marvel at my work and think I’m a genius if you like). I don’t mind sharing the occasional blunder either, because real people make mistakes. That’s how we learn.

Sharing Is Caring

As you’ll find out, I will not only write about my work but also share the design files and code that I create. I have a firm belief that the world would be a better place if us humans shared our knowledge more openly. I admire initiatives like Wikipedia, open access publishing and various open source software and hardware projects.

In my opinion you should only have to reinvent the wheel because you like doing so. Not because someone keeps the knowledge from you for their own personal (or corporate) gain!

I follow a rather strict line when it comes to open source designs. My hardware designs are published under the strictly reciprocal version of the CERN open hardware license. I will not annoy you with what that means right now, but a copy of the license is included with all my projects.

I hope this blog and the projects I write about are fun and maybe even useful or inspiring to others. I also hope that more people will follow my example and share their work with the world.

Enjoy!

Frederik.
